Lightbox 2010

This June saw the birth of a new Animation Festival Lightbox, led by Cinema North West. We had always wanted to see a true festival for Sligo and saw animation, a new strength in the Irish film sector as a natural and obvious choice to build upon.
That said, this was a genuine collaboration with three other partners
The Model in Sligo
The Darklight Film Festival
Synth Eastwood
Each contributed equally in the curation and organisation of the event which we see as an annual event now in the film calendar.
Next year we hope to have it in the Spring with a big focus on education and the various animation schools around the island.

The Venues
We parked up outside the Model in Sligo and used our cinema and their brand new cinema to screen programme concurrently.
The Cinemobile screened the fantastic Darklight Film festival programme and we added features in the Model.
We could also use the Model to host discussions and industry round table events.
The full programme is listed below.

Events
Central to Lightbox was the energy of these guys, Synth Eastwood. They did a short animation during their time in Sligo which was a core element in a performance on the Saturday night.
Synth Eastwood also hosted an Animators Anonymous session where animators got up and presented how they approached their work.
We also had an industry roundtable which discussed the future of the festival which was hosted by Steve Woods.
